UNDERSTANDING THE HUMAN SPIRIT

Updated: Jul 23

INTRODUCTION:

It is very important to know that we are body, soul and spirit. When speaking of the spirit, we must understand that it is the human spirit and not the HOLY SPIRIT. Here I just want to say don't confuse between the Holy Spirit and the human spirit.

In this topic on the human spirit, we will learn according to the Bible what is the human spirit? Where is the human spirit located in the body? Why did God give us the spirit? The purpose and importance of the human spirit, the four main parts of the human spirit and we will conclude this topic by learning the seven truths to know about the human spirit.

1)WHAT IS THE HUMAN SPIRIT? (DEFINITION OF THE SPIRIT)

2)WHERE IS THE HUMAN SPIRIT LOCATED IN THE BODY?

3)THE PURPOSE OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT

4)THE FOUR MAIN PARTS OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT

5)SEVEN TRUTHS TO KNOW ABOUT THE HUMAN SPIRIT

HEBREWS 4:12

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the intentions and thoughts of the heart.

WHAT IS THE HUMAN SPIRIT? ( DEFINITION OF SPIRIT)

According to the Bible, the human spirit represents the presence of God in every human being, whether pagan or Christian, believer or non-believer, the presence of the human spirit represents God Himself in every person who lives on earth.

God, by creating man, placed himself in man from the beginning of creation. His presence is manifested in us by the spirit that He put in us to finally guide us each day towards Him.

WHERE IS THE HUMAN SPIRIT LOCATED IN THE BODY?

The human spirit (mind) resides in our brain, it is the center of our thoughts, our intelligence, our reflections and the human consciousness.

THE PURPOSE OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT

The human Spirit represents the presence of God within us. It is our individual connection with the creator God. Its role in human functioning is to serve as a link between man and his creator, so that man does not lose himself far from his God.

THE THREE MAIN PARTS OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT:

The 3 components of the human spirit are: Thought, Imagination and Memory.

1)THOUGHT: human thinking and reflections

2)IMAGINATION: This ability allows humans to see beyond their body limits.

3)MEMORY: The ability to remember past events, to remember good and bad things or events in our lives. It's like a special room where all the good or bad information that we receive day after day is stored.

SEVEN TRUTHS TO KNOW ABOUT THE SPIRIT

Here is the list of seven truths to know

1)THE SUPERVISOR OF THE SOUL

The spirit (also called mind) is like a kind of overseer or superintendent responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of our soul.

NB: In this role, he monitors, warns, guides and directs our soul in the right direction and according to the will of God.

2)THE SPIRITS IS LIKE A JUDGE OR POLICE

The mind is like the policeman or judge reminding the soul how it should behave according to God's law.

3)THE SPIRIT IS LIKE A LAMP THAT ILLUMINATES OUR SOUL

The spirt is like a lamp that illuminates our soul so that it does not get lost in its destiny. That is why when your mind stops working, you will automatically start living in the dark and if that were to become your case, it would be easy for you to get lost in your calling or mission. That is why it is there like a light that illuminates your life to warn you if a danger presents itself before you.

4) THE SPIRIT IS THE CENTER OF HUMAN INTELLIGENCE AND THINKING

If the soul is the seat of feelings and emotions, the mind is the seat of intelligence and thought, it is where human consciousness resides.

5)THE SPIRIT IS WHERE HUMAN CONSCIOUSNESS RESIDES IN MAN

Again, the soul is the seat of intelligence and thought, it is where human consciousness resides in man.

WHAT IS CONSCIOUSNESS?

What is conscience ? In general, conscience is a quiet inner voice that tells you whether an action is right or wrong. Biblically, it is the voice of God that guides you in your daily life.

So the voice of the human spirit is called consciousness. it is the voice of God that speaks for us every day. following this voice means obeying the voice of God.

Genesis 3:6-11

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit, and ate, and gave also to her husband who was with her, and he ate. 7 And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked: and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons. 8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day. 9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou? 10 And the Adam said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked: and I hid myself. 11 And the LORD God said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? hast thou eaten of the tree of which I said thee that thou shouldest not eat?

6)THE SPIRIT HELPS US TO COMMUNICATE WITH GOD

The mind is cognitive, capable of being aware of God and communicating with God.

(Job 32:8, Psalm 31:6, Proverbs 16:2 1 Corinthians 2:11)

7)THE MIND OPPOSITE TO THE BAD DESIRE OF THE BODY AND SOUL

The mind is the part of the human being that opposes bodily desire or evil desire produced by the soul. According to the Bible, he fights every day against the carnal desire that he seeks to dominate in us.

IN CHRIST WE NEED A RENEWED SPIRIT

ROMANS 12:2 {King James Bible}

And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

When we are born, we are born with a mind already affected and corrupted by the initial sin that Adam and Eve committed in the Garden of Eden. According to the Bible, all humans on this earth are born with this Adamic nature which is the sinful nature that prevents us from understanding the things of God.

According to the scriptures the person who possesses this Adamic nature, the things of God are madness to him because his human spirit is veiled and taken hostage by the devil, he is in a period where his spirit is blinded by the devil and therefore his intelligence, his conscience, his imagination about the things of God and his memory, all these four main parts of the human mind are totally blind and do not function properly. And according to the Bible, he resembles a madman or crazy woman or even an animal, hence the expression man animal that the apostle Paul uses in the book of

(1Corinthiens 2:14)

1 CORINTHIANS 2:14

But the animal man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot know them, because they are spiritually judged.

2 CORINTHIANS 4:4

for the unbelievers (pagan) whose minds the god of this age has blinded from seeing the splendor of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, shine.

This Adamic nature (the sin nature) is also called according to the Scriptures the old man who is corrupted by the deceitful lusts of the present age and the evil desires of the flesh. In Christ, we must strip ourselves of our past life which represents these corrupt old men.

EPHESIANS 4:22-24

You have been taught, regarding your old way of life, to get rid of

(to strip you) of your former self (the old man), which is corrupted by his deceitful desires; 23to be renewed in the attitude of your mind; 24and put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

The period of paganism where man is dominated by the Adamic nature (sinful nature) this period is considered by the Bible as the period of ignorance, the period of madness and blindness. Considering this biblical truth, it means that every pagan is ignorant, crazy and blind which confirms that outside of Christ you are lost.

1 PETER 1:14

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the lusts that you formerly had, when you were in ignorance.

EPHESIANS 4:17

This then is what I say and declare in the Lord, that you must no longer walk as the pagans do, who walk in the vanity of their thoughts.

In Christ our minds are renewed, we strip ourselves of the Adamic nature (the sinful nature) also called the old man to be clothed with the nature of God which is the nature of Christ.

Our eyes are opened, we are no longer blind, we have gone from a foolish and ignorant man to an intelligent person who understands the things of God as at the beginning of creation. By receiving the spirit of Christ into us, we have become new creations in Christ. From the moment we accept to receive the life of Christ in us, we become new creatures where all things have become new in us, including our spirit.

2 CORINTHIANS 5:17

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

COLOSSIANS 3:10

And having put on the new man, who is renewed in knowledge, in the image of him who created him.

Jesus came to give life to our spirit which had died because we were separated from our source which is God. In Christ, our spirit comes alive because the presence of Jesus within us gives life to our spirit and allows it to function fully with full energy.

1 CORINTHIANS 15:45

Therefore it is written: The first man, Adam, became a living soul. The last Adam became a life-giving spirit.

ROMANS 8:2

Indeed, the law of the Spirit of life in Jesus Christ has freed me from the law of sin and death.

God has promised to restore our minds affected by the sin of Adam and Eve. The promises cited in the book of Ezekiel 36:26 I will give us a new spirit.

EZEKIEL 36:36

I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you; I will take away your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

EZEKIEL 18:31

Cast away from you all the transgressions whereby you have sinned; make yourself a new heart and a new mind. Why should you die, house of Israel?

COLOSSIANS 3:10

And having put on the new man, who is renewed in knowledge, in the image of him who created him.

PSALM 51:10

Oh my God! create in me a pure heart, Renew in me a willing spirit.
